'Seeing Life in a New Light: From Mesoscopy to Nanoscopy'
by Dr Michael Shaw, NPL
Wednesday 14th January
8pm
at our premises in Duke Street Church - entrance in Quadrant Road
Light microscopy has been a cornerstone of science and medicine since the 17th century, offering a window into the hidden world of cells, microorganisms and tissues. Recent breakthroughs in physics, chemistry and engineering have transformed the traditional light microscope into a powerful tool for exploring biological systems and processes at scales once thought impossible. From tracking single molecules in living cells to capturing dynamic events in real time, these advances are reshaping our understanding of life. Looking ahead, emerging computational techniques promise to push the boundaries even further—unlocking new insights into the fundamentals of biology and paving the way for improved diagnosis and treatment of disease.
